Eco-friendly Fragrances with Cornwall Candle Co.

Posted by Sarah Jane Humphrey on

Recently, we've been enjoying the chance to share with you some of the fabulous brands we are stocking here at Botanical Atelier. With local entrepreneurs beginning new businesses to those further afield, the commonality is that they're all small and they're all using their own fair hands to create incredible products we are delighted to put on our shelves. We were over the moon when Anna from The Cornwall Candle Co. agreed to sharing her story with us. After spending years creating eco-conscious, all natural candles at home, she now sells her beautiful products around the country. Well done, Anna for creating something amazing!

Meet Anna

Anna Freeman

Anna, can you tell us a little about yourself...

I'm Anna, mum of 4 girls – Nola, Erin, Lottie and Florence – and wife to Ben.For the last 16 years I have been bringing up our girls and all the craziness that goes with that has kept me more than busy. I left my career in retail management when my first daughter was born and never returned.

We would love to know what led you to starting your own business?

I have always been a very creative person – I love photography, interior design and fashion. Whilst at home, in between the girls napping and school runs, I started making my own soy wax candles to burn. I did an aromatherapy course and added what I learned to the candle making process. After many years of burning my candles at home, it crossed my mind that maybe others would enjoy them too! But, this was also a daunting idea.

I mulled it over for quite some time and eventually went for it! I set up my own company in 2020 and The Cornwall Candle Co. was born. My first release was a huge success and sold out over night, as was my second... and so it went on. The Eden project contacted me and asked if they could stock my candles in their shop – of course, I said yes. I then started to offer wholesale and now stock my candles in many different shops across the country, your beautiful shop being one of them.

Can you please tell us a little about your process?

The candle making process is very scientific, especially when essential oils are involved. I only use 100% natural ingredients in all of my products. I don't use any scent boosters or manmade ingredients at all. They are all totally pure, plant-based products. I am so eco-conscious and have also spent so much time researching all of my packaging.

Do you have a favourite fragrance?

Without a doubt, it has to be clary sage. I love it! Followed closely by geranium and vetivert. Everything I have chosen to create, is what I love to use at home so it's very hard to pick a favourite really as I love them all!! I'm always introducing new fragrances, products and ranges and after high demand from my customers I am excited to soon be offering gift boxes.

If you could choose someone to collaborate with who would it be?

I am yet to do any collabs. I've had quite a few businesses approach me who are keen to work with me. That being said I have agreed to one collaboration which I can't say too much about at this stage...watch this space!
